About Julie Willoughby

Textile sculptures, wall hangings and costumes inspired by nature, decorative architecture and historical events. Traditional textile techniques such as quilting, gathering and appliqué are used to create contemporary pieces full of colour and texture.

My work includes performing arts – puppet shows, performance costumes, theatre scenery, scenic work for theme parks and costumes or sculptures for carnivals and parades.

I make site and theme specific artwork and displays for events, festivals and public venues, with community engagement and involvement through workshops and open “have a go” sessions where possible.

Recent work includes “Captain Pink” costumes for Nicholas Treadwell Gallery; props, scenery and community workshops for RSPB and Kismet Theatre Company’s “Marsh Songs”; “Every Song is Different” exhibition and “Trees” private commission.
