Kevin Wallhead
Glass Artist

About Kevin Wallhead
Since graduating from Lincoln University in 1999 my main interest revolves around the human form and focuses on life drawing, interpreting this by using materials not normally associated with the discipline. Glass replaces paper and formed copper wire becomes what traditionally would be pencil.
I also produce bowls and freestanding glass panels incorporating metallic inclusions, taking influence from my immediate environment, the night sky and an interest in African textile design.
As a figurative artist working in the medium of glass and metal my drawings have developed over the last sixteen years through a natural progression. Experimentation is a very important factor in this progression and with a simple palette of glass, copper, sterling silver, 24ct gold, schlag, brass and aluminium, which all perform with a desired unpredictability, new work has evolved.
I am figurative, but I do make other things too.
